A SWIMMER WAS ATTACKED BY A SHARK ON 7/1/07
A swimmer was attacked by a shark on 7/1/07 while swimming in front of the Bel Air Bay Club. The shark appeared to be attracted to jewelry the swimmer was wearing. The shark went after a ring on her finger and succeeded in removing the ring from her hand, as well causing several lacerations. It is recommended that you exercise caution in the water and do not wear flashy or shiny jewelery.

HEAL THE BAY'S 17TH ANNUAL BEACH REPORT CARD
Heal the Bay's <strong><a href="http://www.healthebay.org/brc/annual/default.asp" target="_blank">17th Annual Beach Report Card for 2006-2007 </a></strong> was released today and there's not much to celebrate. In fact, the second most polluted beach in the entire Santa Monica Bay turns out to be less than a mile north of Sunset at a spot called Castle Rock Beach. Sounds like it's time for us all to renew our efforts in the struggle for clean beaches.

FIFTH ANNUAL DOODAH SURF
The <strong><a href="http://www.doodahsurf.com" target="_blank">Fifth Annual Doodah Surf</a></strong> is scheduled for Saturday, July 21st at 7:30 AM. Meet at the bluff (directly south of Gladstones parking lot) for a group paddle out to say goodbye to the aggro attitude and bring back the stoke that keeps us surfing. Dress in costume, bring your best attitude, surf and have fun!

INHUMANE CRUELTY TO MARINE MAMMALS
As most of you know, inhumane cruelty to marine mammals is taking place on a daily basis throughout our oceans. Recent footage of <a href="http://www.glumbert.com/media/dolphin">dolphin massacre in Japan</a> may be viewed here (narrated by Joaquin Phoenix). Please consider <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/golfinho/">signing a petition</a> to the Prime Minister of Japan, if you would like to protest such cruelty.

Riaz Tejani is compiling information about surfers who get sick from the water. A 1-MILE STRETCH OF WILL ROGERS STATE BEACH WAS CLOSED
A 1-mile stretch of Will Rogers State Beach was closed after 10,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the ocean through Santa Monica Mountain Creek. The spill was centered near Pacific Coast Highway and Chautauqua Boulevard, said Eric Edwards, acting chief environmental health specialist for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. The sewage was believed to have originated from the nearby Riviera Country Club, Edwards said. The beach was expected to remain closed until at least Sunday, he said.

JOIN IN A "PADDLE OUT PROTEST"
Join in a "paddle out protest" to protect the coastline and surrounding environment from a proposed Natural Gas Port - the "no to LNG Fundraiser". The event takes place Sunday, October 22, 11am at Surfrider Beach, Malibu. Presented by Malibu Magazine, The City of Malibu, and The Brosnan trust to support coastal protection. Event will be hosted by Laird Hamilton and Pierce Brosnan. Our goal is to get 300 surfers in the water and score a new world record for the Guiness Record Book!
