Water Quality Information

The Los Angeles Department of Health Services recommends that beach users avoid contact with ocean water, especially near flowing storm drains, creeks and rivers for a period of 72 hours after rainfall ends. This is due to the polluted run-off that enters our water after it rains. When you get out of the water, it is advisable to shower as soon as possible. You also may want to flush your ears and gargle with hydrogen peroxide or use another appropriate anti-bacterial agent to avoid infections.

To check for beach closures before you paddle out, it is best to call the Los Angeles Water Quality Hotline at (800) 525-5662. There is also a website which may not updated as frequently as the Hotline number:
